Targeted by a handrail, Quatennens withdraws from his function as coordinator of LFI

Adrien Quatennens is targeted by a handrail filed by his wife, Céline, in the midst of divorce proceedings. In a press release, he evokes three episodes of disputes and apologizes to his wife.

Adrien Quatennens, targeted by a handrail filed by his wife Céline, announced this Sunday, in a press release, to withdraw from his function as coordinator of La France insoumise (LFI).

“I could hunker down, minimize the facts and wait for the storm to pass. But, because I am politically responsible and I want to set an example to which I want to set myself and which has always been my line of conduct , I draw the political consequences”, affirms in this text the deputy of the 1st district of the North.

He also ensures that he acts “to protect the movement, its activists and all those who rely a lot on me”.

Three episodes of disputes

The chained Duck published a brief this week indicating that Céline Quatennens had filed a handrail against her husband after a marital dispute on September 7. However, she did not want any legal follow-up to the filing of her handrail, nor that the media echo it, she had explained upstream to BFMTV. In a joint press release, the couple repeated this desire.

In his text, Adrien Quatennens emphasizes making “the difficult and costly choice” to express himself “in complete transparency about the situation” to find “the path to appeasement in (his) family and in public opinion”. If he says he does not know the contents of his wife’s daybook, the politician recounts three episodes of disputes.

During the first, “in a context of a breakdown in communication between (them)”, he admits having “grabbed his wrist”. More recently, when he took her mobile phone, she allegedly “jumped on his back” to retrieve it and then “bumped her elbow” as he pulled away.

Finally, a year ago, “in a context of extreme tension and mutual aggressiveness”, specifies Adrien Quatennens, he claims to have given him a slap.

“I gave it when it did not look like me and it never happened again. I deeply regretted this gesture and I then apologized a lot,” he says.

“I am not a violent man”

“I know that no explanation, however harsh and no context, however complex the situation, justifies these behaviors. They took place in a particular and rare moment of tension and in no way characterize our life as couple over the long term”, says Adrien Quatennens.

Before continuing: “I am a man of dialogue. I am not a violent man. I hate violence in general and especially towards women. My nature and my commitments bear witness to this. Considering what my life is, I don’t think I can be summed up in this episode, so I want to apologize again to Celine.”

The former number 2 of LFI claims to be at the disposal of justice and asks that his “right to a private life” be respected.
