SZ Podcast “On the Point” – News from October 4th, 2022 – Knowledge

As expected, the number of infections in Munich and Bavaria rose sharply during the Oktoberfest. Nevertheless, says immunologist Carsten Watzl, it was probably right that it happened. At the moment it is no longer about preventing infections, but diseases.

“And you also have to take into account that many people have now achieved a high level of immunity through the vaccination or the infection. That means you can still get infected, but really very few people get seriously ill from it,” says Watzl. In the podcast he also talks about what he expects for the winter and how we continue to learn to live with the pandemic.
