SZ Podcast “On the Point” – News from October 14th, 2022 – Politics

Around 800 delegates are meeting this weekend for the federal party conference of the Greens in Bonn. There is a lot to discuss there. Because the Greens in government actually wanted to get social reforms off the ground – but since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression in Ukraine they have been “constantly busy with existential questions,” says Constanze von Bullion, who reports on the party congress for the SZ.

In the traffic light coalition, they have to negotiate a lot of compromises and have already supported decisions that many in the party don’t like. For example, the extended running times for nuclear power plants, which Habeck will probably have to explain to the delegates on Friday. “There will definitely be sharp criticism, for example from Jürgen Trittin. He asked a whole series of questions in his amendment,” says von Bullion. The arms exports to Saudi Arabia, which the Federal Security Council has approved, will probably also be discussed. “Many expect that this could become an issue that discharges quite a lot of anger.”
