SZ podcast “On the Point” – News from November 4th, 2021 – Knowledge

Cough, fever, shortness of breath: these are the typical symptoms of an infection with the respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV for short. The virus is especially dangerous for young children. In the past few weeks, more and more children have become infected with it. That is why many children’s clinics are reaching their limits.

Florian Hoffmann is a pediatric emergency doctor at the Hauner Children’s Hospital in Munich. He says: If there were an RSV traffic light analogous to the Corona traffic light, it would have been dark red for weeks. Because there are no free beds and too few nursing staff, the doctor sometimes has to move sick children up to 200 kilometers away.
