What an honor!

The Crown Princess and her husband gushed: “We would like to thank Zlatan Ibrahimović for everything he has done for Swedish football and for Sweden. One of the best sports careers ever. We are filled with admiration and gratitude.”

Sweden’s Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson also joined in the hymns of praise for Ibrahimović after the end of his career. He wrote on Instagram: “Zlatan is not only one of Sweden’s most successful footballers of all time, but also worldwide. A swedish pride. He is a role model and an inspiration to many. Thank you, Zlatan!”

The long-time top striker’s former youth club Malmö FF tweeted: “A long and successful career began in Malmö and ended in Milan. Good luck for life outside of football.”

Ibrahimović announced the end of his career on Sunday evening. “The moment has come to say ciao to football,” he said over the stadium microphone in Milan’s legendary San Siro stadium. He showed unusual, visibly great emotions. The “Gazzetta dello Sport” reported on the “King’s farewell” on its front page on Monday.

The world and even the Swedish royal family bow to one of the greatest footballers of all time. In his long career he has won 12 league titles (once with Barça in Spain, twice with Ajax in the Netherlands, four with PSG in France and five with AC Milan/Inter in Italy), won a number of other trophies and received numerous personal honours.
