ABS for e-bikes – car & mobile

Anti-lock braking systems, familiar from cars, are now also intended to make pedelecs safer. Can that work? Our author tried it out – with a mountain bike and a cargo bike.

With electrical support, you can cycle quickly through city traffic. Suddenly a child jumps from the sidewalk onto the bike path. Panic braking! The front wheel locks and the accident is unavoidable. The cyclist flies in a high arc over the handlebars. Different scenario, same problem: After a cozy snack in the hut, refreshed, we head down the forest path into the valley. The heavy e-bike pushes hard, and the hydraulic disc brakes also hold up well against it. Pull the brake lever too hard once and the front wheel slips on the coarse gravel. There will probably be a fall here too.
