Suspect arrested could be ‘scooter rapist’

“The important and patient work of the numerous police officers mobilized has paid off.” On Saturday, Eric Vaillant, the Grenoble public prosecutor, welcomed the arrest of a suspect in the case of the “redhead rapist on the scooter”. The individual was arrested Friday afternoon and taken into custody. It is a young man of 22 years old, originally from Fontaine, specifies the Dauphiné Libéré.

“The DNA expertise carried out urgently by the Lyon national police laboratory made it possible to confuse him in one of the cases,” explains Eric Vaillant. A rape can “be attributed to him with certainty”. On the other facts, the investigation continues.

A press conference on Sunday

A judicial investigation had been opened into seven acts committed between February 8 and March 17 in Grenoble and the surrounding towns. These include two rapes, an attempted rape, a sexual assault and violence with a weapon.

“The broadcast of the rapist’s report allowed the police to collect several dozen testimonies,” indicated the Grenoble prosecutor’s office, which had described “a 20-year-old man, of European type, without accent, around 1m70 and of normal build or even slightly plump” with “brown eyes, pale complexion and rather red hair”.

A press conference on this subject is planned for Sunday in Grenoble.
