Summer festivals in Bavaria 2024 – Munich

The biggest city in Bavaria has the biggest concerts. In Munich this year, in this super pop summer, one and a half million people will visit around 20 large open airs with Taylor Swift, Adele, Coldplay and a few more. In addition, the Tollwood cultural festival offers a big concert every day for a month with audience favorites such as Take ThatLena or Toto. But some train numbers are far from exclusive to Tollwood, Haindling for example, Dieter Thomas Kuhn, Dense & poignant or The BossHoss You can also experience it elsewhere in Bavaria – and perhaps even in a more relaxed way.

Cities like Rosenheim, Füssen and Regensburg are becoming more and more self-confident with their week-long summer festivals, they offer some of the biggest stars: international giants like Sting, Ronan Keating or Zucchero, German pop greats like Wincent Weiß, Pure and Nena and crossover stars like David Garrett and Hauser. Some of the stages are worth seeing in themselves or have a spectacular location – this way the concert trip can be turned into a short vacation. An overview of the most exciting events.

Rosenheim has the most space for its summer festival: 10,500 visitors can find space in the Mangfall Park – in colorful rain ponchos when the weather is bad. And that is necessary, because the parade of stars is enormous. One gets the impression that, first of all, they booked who increased their popularity as a TV judge in “The Voice of Germany”: These are German pop favorites like Wincent Weiß, who brings the DSDS judge Leony with him (July 18th). , Silvermoon with the seventh album “Auf Auf” and the Swiss soul sensation Stefanie Heinzmann (July 19th) and from the current Voice season the Irish one Boyzone-Darling Ronan Keating with several solo hits like “Life Is A Rollercoaster” (July 12).

Nena, who appeared as ageless on “The Voice” as she did in her concerts, shares the evening with a no less legendary colleague from England: Bonnie Tyler (July 17th). According to the program information, they all play “the soundtrack of their lives”, with violin star David Garrett (July 13th) you can listen to it on the album “Alive”, and with pop music giant Dieter Thomas Kuhn in your parents’ record box (20th of July).

It has the most magnificent backdrop Königswinkel Openair near Füssen: The view across Lake Forggensee is Neuschwanstein Castle, a worthy setting for Sting – the pop gentleman is still not a British sir, but a Chevalier of the French Legion of Honor. The 73-year-old former frontman of The Police According to the program, he will be accompanied by “an electric rock ensemble” on July 24th at his only concert in Bavaria in 2024. That sounds a little more refined than “band” and therefore fits well into the baroque garden on the peninsula that was once dug up specifically for the construction of the Neuschwanstein Festival Hall.

Regensburg Castle Festival

You can hear fine concerts in Regensburg not only with a view of a castle, but even in the middle of an aristocratic residence. The inner courtyard of the princely palace is for the organizer Thurn and Taxis Castle Festival non-negotiable, even if the host Gloria von Thurn und Taxis poisons the mood for some culture lovers and sponsors with her political views.

However, Odeon Concerts have put together a very inviting program for 3,000 guests every day: real classical music is offered here with the opera “Carmen” (July 12th & 13th), an opera gala with the “icon of the Salzburg Festival” Asmik Grigorian ( July 14th), but also with classic light, for example with “Operas in Bavarian”, “diaphragm-shattering” with cabaret stars like Gerd Anthoff and Monika Gruber (July 20th), or with the cello gigolo Hauser (July 17th). One thinks of the children with the Janosch musical “Oh, how beautiful is Panama” (July 14th, 10.30 a.m.), but of course also of friends of adult light music with guest performances by Andrea Berg (July 15th), Kool & The Gang (July 18) and two Italian superstars: Zucchero (July 19) and Umberto “Ti Amo” Tozzi (July 21). His farewell tour pays homage to his greatest hits (and not to the lady of the castle): “Gloria forever!”

You can go into raptures in the beautiful Allgäu. The organizers of the Altusried Summer Festival are already foreseeing “moments that will enchant us, carry us away, speed up our hearts.” And they are happy about “one of the most beautiful stages in Europe”: the cantilevered wooden roof, which lies like a huge bat’s wing in the beautiful nature, where the people of Altusried have been performing their open-air theater every three years for 140 years (you can also read about it in a Kluftinger crime novel). This summer the stage will be the venue for musicians exclusively from German-speaking countries: Bavarian legends like Haindling (on farewell tour, August 28th), La BrassBanda (23.) Dense & poignant (24.) and the “cult bands” Spider Murphy Gang and Münchener Freiheit (September 1st), for Austria’s music cabaret market leader Pizzera & Jaus (30.), for medieval rock by Saltatio Mortis (29th) as well as for a melange of Egerländer and Oberkrainer brass music (31st), for the pop rockers Matthias Reim (22nd) and Ben Zucker (27th) as well as for the eternally young German Elvis Peter Kraus (25th).

Music summer Walchensee power plant

Many school classes know the Walchensee power plant from their excursion as it was once the “largest high-pressure storage power plant in the world”. The turbines can be deafeningly loud, but in the “information center with the striking roof” beautiful sounds can be heard in the evenings: those that grew up not far from Kochelsee in Bad Tölz Bananafishbones open the 4. Summer of Music (June 23rd), followed by Claudia Koreck (28th), Pam Pam Ida (7th of July), Brustmann’s desire (July 12), Viennese blonde (July 18th) and an Italo-Pop Night (July 28th).
