Store summer tires dry – Auto & Mobil

If you want to store your summer bikes yourself, you shouldn’t just put them down somewhere. It is best to overwinter in a cool, dry and dark place, advises the testing organization Dekra. The tires should also not come into contact with things such as fuel, oil, paint or grease. In addition, you should clean the tires before going into hibernation, remove any worn-in stones and check the tires for dents, punctures, cracks and make sure that the profile is evenly worn. The pressure can be increased by about 0.5 bar and the original position on the car can be marked with chalk – for example with “VL” for front left. Then you know right away in spring where the right place is. Tires with rims are best stored flat, up to four on top of each other. Or you can hang them on the wall using hooks. Tip: If you find that the profile is approaching the legal limit of 1.6 millimeters and therefore new summer tires are due in the spring, you may be able to get a bargain in winter.
