The annual review for Spotify users is here – and all of Germany is sharing what was heard in 2023. The top artists in particular come as no surprise. But there are some new Spotify categories.

It’s that time again – social media is flooded with pictures and videos of this year’s event Spotify annual review “Wrapped”. Like every year, the streaming platform reveals who listened to what and how often based on bare numbers – and sometimes draws more and less serious conclusions from it.

“Wrapped” is also an important tool for the artists who offer their content on the platform – because here they can find out how successful the music or podcast was this year.

From a global perspective, only the really big names are in the top 5: Taylor Swift takes first place, followed by Bad Bunny, The Weeknd, Drake and others Mexican singers Peso Pluma.

Germany primarily listens to German acts on Spotify

Germany is actually a little different – and remains surprisingly regional when it comes to music streaming. The top acts in this country are:

  1. Apache 207
  2. Bonez MC
  3. Taylor Swift
  4. RAF Camora
  5. Luciano
  6. AYLIVA
  7. The Weeknd
  8. Drake
  9. Eminem
  10. Sido

Many from this list can be found in the top German songs, but there are also outliers. According to Spotify, Germany listened to the following songs the most:

  1. “Comet” by Udo Lindenberg, Apache 207
  2. “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus
  3. “She Knows (feat. Mero)” by AYLIVA
  4. “TABOO.” by Yung Yury
  5. “Mockingbird” by Eminem
  6. “Girl on a Horse” by Luca-Dante Spadafora
  7. “Friesenjung” by Ski Aggu, Joost, Otto Waalkes
  8. “Daylight” by David Kushner
  9. “Future Pink (feat. Inéz)” by Peter Fox
  10. “I’m Good (Blue)” by David Guetta

Spotify Wrapped also examines podcasts – who do people listen to the most? While Spotify’s investment of millions has apparently paid off and Joe Rogan has the most listeners worldwide, Germany is also left behind in this category. Won:

  1. Mixed mince
  2. Firm & fluffy
  3. Hobbyless
  4. Murderousness
  5. Kurt Krömer – Feelings
  6. crime
  7. Thick & stupid
  8. Baywatch Berlin
  9. Knowledge Weekly
  10. LANZ & PRECHT

In addition to the most listened to content in each category, Wrapped is also so popular because Spotify tailors it to individual people – making the review very personal. Of course, this also means that a huge number of individual reviews end up on the Internet – although interest in the friends’ taste in music may be rather low. You still want to show it.

Spotify assigns users to a personality and a city

The latest features include classification of listening preferences into specific categories. For example, for the first time you are defined by one of twelve listening personality types. These include, for example, “Cyclops”, “Mastermind” or “Vampire”. A “vampire” – unsurprisingly – hears rather dark things Music, a “cyclops” mainly moves in one genre. The “mastermind” is different because people with this type listen across the board.

The new “Sound Town”, which Spotify defines based on the most listened to songs, is also extremely strange – for whatever reason. Here, users are assigned to a specific German city that Spotify believes suits their musical taste. Apparently many people on social networks are wondering why it is Münster of all places. For fans of seafaring music, the fact that it is usually Kiel raises fewer questions.

Anyone who is a fan of the really big artists can also look forward to a video message this year. Swifties, for example, are shown a greeting from their idol, while fans of Bad Bunny, Peso Pluma, NewJeans, SZA, KAROL G and Dolly Parton also get to enjoy it.
