The onset of winter with large amounts of snow is also causing chaos beyond Germany. There are power outages in Styria.

According to energy suppliers, at least 20,000 households in Austria are still without power after intense snowfall Electricity. In Styria, a high-voltage pylon snapped, leading to a power outage in parts of the state.

The utility Energie Steiermark reported 265 failed stations on Sunday morning. Thousands of households in Upper Austria on the German border also had to survive without electricity. After the failure of cell phone stations, making calls with cell phones was not possible regionally in Styria, as the authorities announced.

On Sunday the snowfall subsided and the situation on the streets eased. According to the ÖAMTC traffic club, numerous roads were still closed due to fallen trees. Train traffic also continues to be affected, the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB) said. The danger of avalanches in the mountains was great. More than half a meter of fresh snow had fallen regionally since Saturday.
