Small rockets – Isar Aerospace is allowed to start in Kourou – economy

The competition between the three German start-ups for small rockets is picking up speed. While Hyimpulse (Heilbronn) is preparing for the launch of a sounding rocket at the end of the year and the Rocket Factory Augsburg reports that the first test phase of its engine has been completed, Isar Aerospace has announced that it will be able to use the European launch site in Kourou/French Guiana from 2024. So far, the Esa rockets have been launched there Ariane and Vega and a modified Russian one until the beginning of the war Soyuz. However, the test flight planned for 2023 by Isar Aerospace is to start in Andøya/Norway. In contrast to Kourou, which is close to the equator, not all orbits can be reached from there. “More satellite launch capacities are the only way to create a globally competitive market and bring business to Europe,” says Isar co-founder Josef Fleischmann.
