Slippery roads in MV: dangerous goods transports must stop | NDR.de – News

As of: December 6th, 2023 2:46 p.m

Snowfall and slippery conditions with temperatures around freezing point have led to accidents in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. In Greifswald, a bus crashed into a tree – two people were slightly injured. The police point out that dangerous goods transports are not allowed to continue in these weather conditions.

The drivers of such transports, who have loaded gasoline, heating oil, propane gas or similar, are well advised to stop in the nearest parking lot or not to drive off at all, said the Neubrandenburg police headquarters. At midday, a patrol between Stavenhagen and Malchin banned a driver who was transporting propane gas from continuing his journey and ordered a fine. Just last week, a tanker truck had an accident on the A20 in blowing snow. It was said that residual materials escaped from a damaged intermediate pipe. This driver will also face a fine, according to the police. The German Weather Service (DWD) warned that there is currently still a significant risk of slippery conditions.

Two slightly injured in bus accident

In Greifswald at the mill in Eldena, a city bus left the slippery road in the morning and hit a tree. The bus driver and a passenger were slightly injured. The total damage to the bus is estimated by the police at 370,000 euros. In Hintersee near Eggesin, two cars collided early in the morning, leaving one person seriously injured. The police spoke of improper speed as the cause of the accident.

Traffic accidents on state and federal highways

There were several incidents on the roads in the northeast early in the morning. There were disruptions on the B110 federal highway between Rostock and Demmin after an accident near Deven. The country road between Kasnevitz and Garz on Rügen had to be closed for rescue work; according to the police, a van and a car were unable to pass each other due to the weather conditions. The route is now open again.

Closures and accidents on highways

Three people were slightly injured in an accident on the A19. The A20 in the direction of Lübeck had to be closed for around two hours between the Rostock junction and Rostock-Südstadt after an accident. Also on the A20, shortly after the Greifswald junction in the direction of Rostock, there was an accident involving several cars, which is why the Greifswald entrance was temporarily closed. There were further accidents in the Neubrandenburg police headquarters area, including near Dargun and in Heringsdorf.

Deep “Sani” is causing more snowfall

The low “Sani” is still centered over northern Germany and is channeling moist, cold air into the region, reports meteorologist Michael Klein from the NDR weather studio Hiddensee. Therefore, there will be more long-lasting snowfalls in the country today – especially in Western Pomerania and East Mecklenburg. Sleet and freezing rain are also possible from the afternoon onwards, meaning the roads could become very slippery. The police ask the public to drive carefully and adapt to the weather. Rainfall is expected to become increasingly rare as the evening progresses.

Warming predicted for the weekend

According to the Hiddensee weather studio, there will only be light snowfall in some places on Thursday, as well as on Friday. There will be warming over the weekend, with temperatures expected to climb back up to eight degrees.

Warning against entering ice surfaces

The winter weather will continue until the weekend. For the coming days, the State Water Police Office is warning against entering apparently frozen waters. The ice is too thin in many places and there is a danger to life in the event of a breakthrough into the cold water.
