Ski jumping: Eisenbichler jumps back into the top ten

Markus Eisenbichler seems to have overcome his form low and has returned with a strong performance in the extended world class. The Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud took the win. After problems in the first round, Karl Geiger was at least able to fight his way forward.

Markus Eisenbichler was able to confirm his recent stronger impressions and managed a very respectable sixth place with 130.5 and 132 meters. He was the best jumper of national coach Stefan Horngacher. Victory went to the Norwegian Halvor Egner Granerud (129 / 141 m) ahead of the Polish local hero Dawid Kubacki (137.5 / 124 m) and Stefan Kraft from Austria (134 / 145.5 m).

Eisenbichler was then happy about the best weekend of the season: “Yesterday the jumping was good and today I tried to continue there. I just wanted to do my job and implement what the coaches told me. The first jump wasn’t that great, but the second was really nice again“The Siegsdorfer rejoiced on the sports show microphone.

Andreas Wellinger was in seventh place at half-time, but had to let a few competitors pass due to the changeable conditions on the Wielka Krokiew hill. After jumps of 133 and 129 meters he finally finished eleventh.

Wind always causes delays

For a long time it was not clear whether a competition could take place in Zakopane at all. Since the morning a storm has been raging over the small town near the High Tatras, the trees are bending in the wind. The jury met several times and kept postponing the test run until they finally canceled it and started the first evaluation run straight away. There were also frequent breaks in the competition, the wind changed direction almost every minute. Halfway fair jumping was only possible thanks to the wind point regulation.

At the end of the World Cup in Zakopane, individual jumping is on the program for the DSV-Adler – Karl Geiger, Markus Eisenbichler and Philipp Raimund in an interview.

Geiger makes up ground in the final

In the final, Karl Geiger fought his way up ten positions from 24th place. On his first jump he couldn’t cope with the tailwind and landed after 121 meters. In the second round he operated in much better conditions and 133.5 meters damage limitation.

So Geiger was at least the third best DSV jumper and pushed past Stephan Leyhe (127 / 123 m), Constantin Schmid (122 / 125 m) and Philipp Raimund (124 / 128). They came in 19th, 22nd and 29th place. Raimund artistically avoided a fall in the second jump just before landing.
