In September, the Tiktok platform hit the charts worldwide, and since then things have been going uphill: “Greedy” singer Tate McRae is experiencing a real rush. Does your album do it justice?

The social media platform Tiktok can catapult songs to the top of the streaming charts overnight and turn relatively unknown musicians into successful stars around the world. Whether they remain so in the long term depends on several factors. Things are looking good for Canadian Tate McRae. Her second album “Think Later” is released this Friday.

The Calgary-born singer, who now lives in Los Angeles, has been releasing music for several years. She achieved her international breakthrough in 2020 with the soulful ballad “You Broke Me First”. Three months ago she released the catchy pop song “Greedy.” Millions of Tiktok users then add snippets of the song about a pushy admirer to their videos. The hit goes viral, lands at number one on the Spotify charts and plays up and down the radio.

“The last two months have been the craziest months of my life. It’s going from gig to gig. Seeing how “Greedy” became a worldwide hit is very cool,” McRae told the German Press Agency during a visit to Berlin. Your personal highlight: a visit to the legendary show “Saturday Night Live”.

For her new album, the 20-year-old teamed up with hit producer Ryan Tedder, who also works with Taylor Swift and Beyoncé – further success is actually inevitable.

Songs like “Guilty Conscience” or the new single “Run For The Hills” are modern pop songs with an easy-to-remember chorus – making them also interesting for Tiktok videos. “It’s actually like on the radio. If you hear a catchy refrain, it stays in your memory. It’s the same with Tiktok now. It’s the same formula, just on a different platform.”

McRae, who has a German mother, not only impresses with her danceable uptempo songs, but also vocally in ballads like “Grave” and “Want That Too”. She will continue to be active on social media, but will primarily focus on her music and brand. “That’s what makes the whole package. Then it’s real art and not just Tiktok music.” The singer is going on her first world tour in the spring.
