Shopping mall shooting leaves three dead, two injured

At around 6 p.m. (2200 GMT) on Sunday evening, an individual with a rifle and several rounds of ammunition entered the food court at Greenwood Park Mall, A mall of the US state of Indiana. According to Greenwood Police Chief, the man then opened fire. Three people died under the bullets of the shooter and two others were injured, including a 12-year-old girl.

Mark Myers, the mayor of Greenwood, the town about 10 miles south of downtown Indianapolis, the state capital, said the unidentified shooter was shot by “an armed individual”. “The real hero of the day is the citizen who was legally carrying a gun in that food court and was able to stop the shooter almost as soon as he started,” Jim Ison said, calling the 22-year-old “good samaritan”.

The recent spike in gun violence has reignited the debate over gun regulation. A U.S. House of Representatives committee is due to consider a bill this week to ban assault weapons for the first time in nearly 20 years. A ten-year federal ban on assault weapons expired in 2004.
