At around 6 p.m. (2200 GMT) on Sunday evening, an individual with a rifle and several rounds of ammunition entered the food court at Greenwood Park Mall, A mall of the US state of Indiana. According to Greenwood Police Chief, the man then opened fire. Three people died under the bullets of the shooter and two others were injured, including a 12-year-old girl.

The recent spike in gun violence has reignited the debate over gun regulation. A U.S. House of Representatives committee is due to consider a bill this week to ban assault weapons for the first time in nearly 20 years. A ten-year federal ban on assault weapons expired in 2004.
