Seniors’ Union Munich-Land criticizes Berlin – district of Munich

The Senioren-Union München-Land criticizes that the federal government is disregarding the interests of the older generation in the current crisis situation. “The framework conditions for life have deteriorated significantly for older people in recent weeks,” said district chairwoman Ilse Weiß according to a press release from the Senior Citizens’ Union at the district general meeting in Unterschleißheim. Nevertheless, the elderly would be excluded from assistance. Weiß referred to the fact that the traffic light decided to align the relief package with the group of people who are subject to income tax. Pensioners and students are left out. This shows, said Weiß, “that we have to give our age group a loud voice.” As a guest speaker, the Unterhaching CSU member of the Landtag, Kerstin Schreyer, attacked the energy policy in Berlin. “The waiver of funding for the smaller hydroelectric power plants and ignoring the topic of geothermal energy represent a policy that primarily harms Bavaria.” The lifetime achievement of pensioners is not recognized by the traffic light coalition. “The currently difficult situation of many older fellow citizens with lower incomes is not understood.” With a view to the state elections next year, the Seniors’ Union wants to intensify the political debate. The main focus would be the overall concept for senior citizens in the district as well as climate protection and sustainability.
