The software developer Hazel is up X shared a screenshot, which shows the 7,470 open Firefox tabs she’s kept open for two years. At first she had difficulty restoring them after closing the browser.
However, using a Firefox profile cache, she managed to bring the tabs back to life, reloading the entire session in just a minute. “I feel like a part of me is restored”explained Hazel on X after successfully restoring her tab landscape.
On the Question from PCMag When asked about the reasons why she keeps such an extensive collection of tabs open, Hazel replied that it was because of nostalgia. She enjoys scrolling through the tabs from a few months ago and likens the experience to a trip down memory lane, reliving her activities, learning experiences, and thoughts.
Firefox’s memory efficiency shines
Remarkably, according to the developer, the high number of open tabs had no noticeable impact on performance. She attributes this to Firefox’s memory efficiency and explains that the browser only loads websites when the tab is clicked, resulting in minimal resource consumption.
In contrast, Google Chrome is known to be a memory hog, although Google has taken steps to address this problem. A quick test conducted by PCMag found that just ten Chrome tabs on a Windows 11 PC with 32 GB of RAM and 2 TB of NVMe SSD storage used over 2,000 MB, or 12.5 percent of the PC’s RAM.
