Goodenough, winner of the Nobel Prize in Chemistry, dies at the age of 100
John Goodenough is best known for his contributions to the development of modern lithium-ion batteries. But that wasn’t the only reason why the scientist achieved a degree of fame.
The US chemistry Nobel laureate John Goodenough, who received the prize in 2019 at the age of 97 as the oldest person to date, is dead. Goodenough, born in Jena in 1922 to American parents, died on Sunday at the age of 100, said the University of Texas in Austin on Monday with Goodenough was a “dedicated public servant, a well-loved mentor and a brilliant but humble inventor,” the university said. Goodenough is best known for his contributions to the development of modern lithium-ion batteries.
