After the bitter 5-0 defeat at West Ham United and the Europa League exit, Freiburg coach Christian Streich was disappointed. However, the result has no influence on his contract extension.

SC Freiburg’s bitter Europa League exit at West Ham United plays into the coach’s decision Christian Streich has no role in extending his contract in Breisgau. “The game has no influence on it at all,” emphasized Streich after Freiburg’s 0:5 (0:2) at the Premier League club in London (first leg 1:0). “It would be bad if a single game had an influence on something like that. That has nothing to do with it.”

Streich, who has been coaching Freiburg for around twelve years and has recently only extended his contract by one year, announced before the game on RTL+ that the decision on his whereabouts would be made next week. “Next week we’ll let you know what it looks like,” the 58-year-old made it clear again during the press conference after the game in London. “That’s not so important now.”

Freiburg defender Matthias Ginter would like his coach to stay. “There’s actually no need for words,” said Ginter on RTL+. “Of course we all want him to stay at the club for another ten or 15 years. Because he lives the club, because he’s been through everything, because, I think, he’s helped develop the club, especially in the last few years.”
