Saturday’s pro-Palestinian rally in Paris not banned, the PS in turn calls for a march

The police headquarters did not prohibit this Thursday the holding in Paris on Saturday of a demonstration in support of the Palestinian people, which the Socialist Party announced it would join even though it had not done so until then.

“If he does not ban this demonstration, the police prefect nevertheless maintains his posture of firmness adopted since the start of the conflict” between Israel and Hamas, explained the police headquarters in a press release, recalling that it “does not prohibit this demonstration, will tolerate no overflow.” Police chief Laurent Nuñez met the organizers on Thursday.

An “immediate ceasefire”

This “march against the war” is planned between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on a route going from Place de la République to Place de la Nation. The call to demonstrate – signed by the CGT, FSU, the UNEF, LFI, EELV, the PCF and the NPA – demands an “immediate ceasefire”, a “stopping of bombings and forced displacements of the population”, an “immediate lifting of the blockade” and “protection of the Palestinian people in Gaza and the West Bank”.

“Nothing has been done for three weeks to stop the cycle of killings,” the PCF deplored this Thursday in a press release, singling out “diplomatic cowardice and complicity” which, according to it, “gave a blank- adhering to Netanyahu’s far-right government.

The PS joins the ranks of the demonstrators

Initially in retreat, the Socialist Party finally also called, on Thursday, to “join all the initiatives and marches organized on Saturday November 4”. Gatherings are planned in other cities in France.

“The Socialist Party calls for mobilization on November 4 for the release of the hostages, an immediate ceasefire, the search for a political solution,” indicates the PS, which specifies “calling to join all initiatives and organized marches (…) for all these reasons and on these demands alone, in the seriousness of the situation and with respect.” However, the PS does not currently join the collective appeal launched by the three other Nupes parties, the associations and trade union organizations behind Saturday’s demonstration.

A rally in support of the Palestinian people has already taken place this Thursday evening in Paris, Place de la République, also authorized.
