Samsung’s next-generation Bluetooth tracker could be one step closer to launch. Following the smart accessory’s alleged features, which were leaked in April, the tracker recently emerged in a certification confirming that it will be called the Galaxy Smart Tag 2 and will be connected to Bluetooth 5.3.

For comparison, the original Samsung Galaxy Smart Tag was based on Bluetooth LE 5.0. Later, the South Koreans launched a Plus version of the Galaxy Smart Tag, which was equipped with Bluetooth 5.1 and included UWB (Ultra Wide Band) technology, which allowed locating nearby objects in the AR view, similarly like Apple’s guided navigation in the “Find My” app for the AirTag (test).
As the Bluetooth SIG found out, Samsung’s upcoming tracker, dubbed the Galaxy Smart Tag 2, features the latest Bluetooth 5.3 connectivity standard, which boasts some notable improvements over the older version. These include higher power efficiency for longer battery life, as well as lower latency and better reliability when used within range, all of which could be built into the Bluetooth tracker.

Although the listing revealed little about the Samsung Galaxy Smart Tag 2, it has already been reported that it will support unwanted tracking. A cross-platform feature that both Apple and Google plan to offer later this year. However, it remains unclear whether compatibility with Android’s “Find My” device network or the ability to pair the tracker with another app will be added instead of Samsung’s SmartThings.
Also, the tag could also have a louder speaker, allowing it to be located via noise. At the same time, the tracker is expected to offer enhanced integration with Samsung’s smart home ecosystem, allowing for more features. Among other things, triggering a scene by pressing a key combination.
Samsung is expected to announce the new tracker on July 26 when the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 5 and Galaxy Z Flip 5 will be unveiled at the Unpacked event. There’s no word yet on how much the Galaxy Smart Tag 2 will cost, but the price could range from $29 for the standard model to $39 for the Plus model.
