Saïd Chabane, businessman and football club boss, tried for sexual assault

He left the presidency of SCO of Angers to his son but he remains the owner of the football club, currently leader of Ligue 2. He is also a renowned and feared businessman, boss of the Sarthe agri-food company Cosnelle which he founded in 1997. Saïd Chabane, 59, will appear this Monday before the Angers criminal court on suspicion of sexual assault. Six women were identified as potential victims. Four work or have worked within the Angers SCO club. Two are former employees of Cosnelle.

The facts allegedly took place from 2014 to 2019. The complainants were then aged 20 to 25 years old. They report touching, to different parts of the body, and attempts to kiss, while Saïd Chabane was their hierarchical superior. The Franco-Algerian leader, who is prohibited from contacting the complainants, denies the facts outright. After investigation, he was still indicted for “aggravated sexual assault” in February 2020. A seventh potential victim was also identified but the facts she denounced date back more than ten years ago and are now prescribed.

Saïd Chabane’s legal troubles do not end there since he will also be tried on March 25, by the Bobigny criminal court, for “illegal exercise of the profession of sports agent” and “money laundering by an organized gang » as former president of the SCO.
