The SPD politician Rehlinger is the new prime minister of Saarland. The previous economics minister of Saarland was elected to succeed Tobias Hans in the Saarbrücken state parliament in the first ballot.

Around four weeks after the state elections in Saarland, the state parliament in Saarbrücken elected the SPD politician Anke Rehlinger as the new Prime Minister in its constituent session. The 46-year-old received 32 of the 51 votes in the vote. That was three votes more than the governing SPD parliamentary group has seats.

Rehlinger succeeds Prime Minister Tobias Hans (CDU), who clearly lost the state elections on March 27. The SPD can form a one-man government with an absolute majority. It has 29 out of 51 seats in the state parliament. The opposition CDU has 19 seats, the AfD three. There are no other parties in the state parliament.
