On Monday evening, May 6, 2024, it wasn’t just the fashion elite who took part in the Met Gala in New York. There were also a number of surprise moments from the stars. GALA has summarized the most important ones for you.
Every first Monday in May, the fashion elite gathers on the now legendary steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. Then “Vogue” boss invites you Anna Wintour, 74, invited the who’s who of the fashion industry and well-known stars to the Met Gala. This year everything is themed “Garden of Time”. But in addition to the magnificent gowns – co-host Zendaya, 27, even presented two dramatic designer looks – there was also a lot of whispering on the edge of the green carpet. Met Gala 2024: The 4 big surprises of the evening
1. Meg Ryan makes her Met comeback after more than 20 years
What a comeback! For the first time in 23 years, actress Meg Ryan, 62, walked the Met Gala carpet again. The last time the ’90s rom-com favorite attended the event was in 2001. At that time she appeared alongside Liev Schreiber, 56, her co-star in the 2001 romantic comedy “Kate & Leopold”. At the time, Ryan had only been separated from her husband Dennis Quaid, 70, for a few months; the divorce was finalized in July 2001.

Even with her Met comeback, Ryan has a failed love behind her – but at least several years. In 2019, her relationship with her fiancé, US rock singer John Mellencamp, 72, broke up. Meg shines even more this time. She poses for the photographers in a black robe with floral glitter applications and an impressive train. A special eye-catcher: the partially transparent top. The look by designer Michael Kors, 64, is completed by Meg Ryan’s iconic long bob hairstyle. She already relied on this in 2001.

2. Couples premiere for Barry Keoghan and Sabrina Carpenter
After initial love rumors in December 2023, US singer Sabrina Carpenter, 24, and Oscar-nominated actor Barry Keoghan, 31, made their love official with a date in February of this year. But it would still be a few weeks before the couple appeared together at an official event for the first time. For their debut as a couple, the “Saltburn” star and the “Espresso” interpreter chose no less an event than the Met Gala.

Sabrina looks like a modern-day Cinderella in her strapless mermaid-style dress. Barry appeared in a Willy Wonka-style suit. A truly fairytale green carpet premiere.
3. Beyonce Knowles is missing – but her nephew Julez Smith is making his Met debut
The list of big stars who didn’t show up at the Met Gala in 2024 is long. As in previous years, fans had to do without Beyonce Knowles, 42. But her nephew attracted attention with his Met debut. Julez Smith, 19, the son of singer Solange Knowles, 37, appeared at the event for the first time.

The model opted for a black suit and is accompanied by designer Raul Lopez and singer Lil Nas X, 25.
4. Single Met for Brooklyn Peltz Beckham and Jennifer Lopez
Not every star came to the Met Gala with their sweetheart. As co-host, Jennifer Lopez, 54, provides one of THE sparkling moments in her nude dress. But her most important piece of jewelry is missing at her side: husband Ben Affleck, 51. The reason is quickly found: a representative of the actor then confirms to the US magazine “People” that Affleck was filming “The Accountant 2” in Los Angeles is just indispensable.

Brooklyn Peltz Beckham, 25, also climbed the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art without his better half. The eldest son of David, 49, and Victoria Beckham, 50, is sad about the absence of his wife Nicola Peltz Beckham, 29. “I miss my beautiful wife as my date tonight,” he writes on his Instagram story and continues: “But happy she’s with Naunni. Can’t wait to see you both tomorrow, baby.”

Naunni is Nicola’s grandmother and apparently the reason why Nicola didn’t attend the Met Gala. In her Instagram story, Brooklyn’s wife reveals what she did instead: “We had a cupcake party where we looked at all the beautiful MET dresses.”
