Luxembourg has refused a license to broadcast a German-language TV program on the Russian broadcaster RT. At the request of the German Press Agency, the State Ministry announced that it was not responsible. Since the media service provider has a registered office in Germany and a significant part of the staff entrusted with the provision of the audiovisual media service is based in Berlin, the TV program is subject to the jurisdiction of Germany. the picture-Zeitung had first reported on the now officially made decision by the Department of Media, Telecommunications and Digital Agenda of the Ministry of State. According to the State Ministry, the aim of the application by the organization TV Novosti, which is behind the RT brand, was to have the TV program broadcast via satellites from a Luxembourg provider. RT is repeatedly criticized in the West as the Kremlin’s propaganda tool. Central allegation: The station spreads conspiracy theories and disinformation on behalf of the Russian state. RT – earlier Russia Today – has been planning a German-language TV program for a long time, but needs a broadcast license for it.
