In his resignation, which is available to NDR, the 44-year-old cited his party’s Russia course as the reason. Bockhahn was state chairman of the Left Party until 2012 and also a member of the Bundestag for the party.

According to Bockhahn, the left does not manage to “name and ostracize the fascist dictator Putin as such.” She does not succeed in clearly declaring Putin the perpetrator and denouncing his war crimes in Ukraine.

The left is increasingly losing its credibility

According to Bockhahn, Putin is a mass murderer, not only of other peoples but also of his own. Instead of ostracizing Putin, however, mock debates are being held about NATO and the USA. The party executive is also willing to fight for peace with right-wing radicals. An allusion to the so-called “Manifesto for Peace”, which the former parliamentary group leader Sahra Wagenknecht initiated.

Bockhahn said the state of the left was deplorable. A left-wing party is urgently needed in view of the contrasts between rich and poor. “We need a party that makes offers with modern left-wing concepts and concrete ideas instead of pointing fingers and insisting on moral superiority,” said Bockhahn.

The state chairman of the left, Peter Ritter, did not want to comment on Bockhahn’s departure for the time being. Bockhahn himself is not available for an interview at the request of NDR.
