Ronin: Fisker plans sporty electric car with “world’s longest range”

The first picture of the Fisker Ronin doesn’t give much away – it’s too dark for that. But the fact is: It will be sporty.

A picture, little information, a lot of hope: With the Ronin, electric car manufacturer Fisker wants to show a vehicle with a range of around 900 kilometers in 2023.

It is to be presented in August 2023, and the Ronin is to go into production in 2024: Manufacturer Fisker is apparently currently planning the third electric car model and would like to break records with it. There are two exciting aspects that would actually be record-breaking in this form – at least for the moment.

First of all, company founder Henrik Fisker mentions the range of the car. This should be “over 885 kilometers” and thus surpass the current leader Lucid Air with 837 kilometers. However, it is about records in the American EPA measuring method, theoretically Mercedes with the EQXX (1008 kilometers) and the Chinese manufacturer GAC with the Aion LX Plus (1008 kilometers) are already above it, only the official measurements are missing.

Battery in the vehicle structure

The way in which Fisker wants to accommodate the battery in the vehicle is also exciting. According to the Instagram post, Fisker is planning to house the cells in the vehicle structure, which should save weight and, according to the announcement, promise better efficiency.

However, like the other kings of range, the Ronin is definitely not intended for the mass market. Fisker is already expecting a price of around 200,000 US dollars. That would be similar to that of Lucid. The Air Dream Edition Range currently costs $161,500.

So far no Fisker on the road

Fisker is still holding back with specific data, the announcement comes more than a year before the date of the first presentation of a real vehicle. In a short press release it is still said that the Ronin will have “unique doors” that should make it easier to get started. The interior is also vegan and sustainable.

Fisker electric cars are still unknown in Europe. The manufacturer’s first vehicle, the electric SUV Ocean, is scheduled to roll off the assembly line in Austria from mid-November 2022, and the small car Pear is planned for 2024.

Fisker does not build both cars itself, the Ocean is manufactured by Magna Steyr, and the Pear is built by the Taiwanese giant Foxconn. Who should build the ronin is still open. It is also questionable whether the targeted record values in two years will still be the same – with the current leaps in development in the field of electromobility, it seems at least questionable whether Fisker will still be alone with a range of around 900 kilometers in 2024.
