They’re always one day earlier than the Oscars: The nominations for the “Razzies” have been announced. There are, among others, Jennifer Lopez, Michael Douglas and Megan Fox.
Oscar winners like Russell Crowe (59) or Helen Mirren (79) could be with Hollywood in March to be awarded ridiculous prizes. The awardees of the “Golden Raspberries” or “Razzies” announced the nominations for the not-so-serious prizes. Traditionally, the “Razzie” candidates are named the day before the Oscar nominations are announced.
Crowe is nominated for Worst Actor for his role in the horror thriller “The Pope’s Exorcist,” while Mirren is nominated for her villain role in “Shazam! Fury of the Gods.” Also stars like Vin Diesel (“Fast X”), Jon Voight (“Mercy”), Ana de Armas (“Ghosted”), Salma Hayek (“Magic Mike’s Last Dance”), Jennifer Lopez (“The Mother”), Michael Douglas (“Ant Man & The Wasp: Quantumania” or Megan Fox and Sylvester Stallone for “The Expendables 4” are in the running in the acting divisions.
The “Razzie” leader is the action film “The Expendables 4” with seven nominations, followed by the two horror films “The Exorcist – Confession” and “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey” with five “win” chances each. In addition to these three candidates, “Meg 2: The Deep” and “Shazam! Fury of the Gods” are also included in the top “Worst Film” category.
The “Razzies” (short for Raspberry) were founded in 1980 by the cineaste John Wilson as a counterpart to the glamorous Oscars. According to the group, over 1,100 members vote in the United States and other countries. The “winners” are traditionally announced on the day before the Oscar gala, which is scheduled to take place on March 10th. This Tuesday (January 23rd) the Hollywood Film Academy will announce the Oscar nominations.
