He considered himself the “King of Germany” – now a prison cell is his kingdom for the time being. “Reich citizen” Peter Fitzek was sentenced to imprisonment.

The “Reich citizen” Peter Fitzek has been sentenced to eight months imprisonment without probation by the Wittenberg district court. The 57-year-old was found guilty of intentional bodily harm and insult, a spokesman for the Dessau-Roßlau district court said on Thursday. The verdict is not yet legally binding.

“Reich citizen” Peter Fitzek insulted Bundeswehr soldiers

On March 1 last year, Fitzek is said to have pushed a woman against a door during an argument in the office building of the district of Wittenberg and then kicked her with his foot. He also insulted two people from the Bundeswehr when they wanted to help. Fitzek’s defense had reportedly demanded an acquittal.

“Reich citizens” do not recognize the Federal Republic of Germany as a state. Born in Halle in Saxony-Anhalt, Fitzek founded the “Kingdom of Germany” in Wittenberg in 2012 and appointed himself its head. In their own administrative structures, the self-governing bodies issue, among other things, “Reich driver’s licenses”, “Reich trade licences” and “Reich passports”, which have no legal force.

The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution assigns around 23,000 supporters to the entire scene – and the trend is rising. According to the assessment, there are also violent and right-wing extremists among them. Some supporters of the scene are in possession of weapons.

The district administrator of the Anhalt district of Wittenberg, Christian Tylsch, welcomed the verdict: “Anyone who thinks they are outside of our social rules and laws must realize that we are not living together in a fantasy state, but in a constitutional state,” said the CDU -Politicians from the DPA news agency. The woman attacked by Fitzek worked through a security company for the district administration. Employees should not be threatened and even attacked. According to Tylsch, Fitzek was banned from the administration before the verdict was announced.
