Radsternfahrt Munich: ADFC demonstrated for better cycling infrastructure – Munich

With its big wheel rally on Sunday, April 23, the ADFC cycling club wants to promote the “Radentscheid Bayern” referendum. The demo leads partly over the Mittlerer Ring. For the first time, the demonstrators also cycle over a blocked section of the A96 motorway between Sendling and Blumenau.

A total of 16 demo trains cycle from numerous starting points in the entire metropolitan region and five starting points in Munich in the direction of Königsplatz, where a rally with a stage program takes place from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

The demo trains in the surrounding area start cycling in the morning in order to be in the city center in time for the rally. In Munich, four rallyes start around noon from different directions. The individual starting points as well as the set-up and departure times are on the homepage muenchen.adfc.de/sternfahrt to find. A fifth rally is the family route, which begins at the Olympic Park and travels at a slow pace so that smaller children can also cycle along.

The ADFC has also compiled practical tips and rules for participation. Among other things, no refreshment stands are permitted on Königsplatz, so participants should bring enough food and drinks for the tour themselves. Dogs are not allowed to accompany the demo for safety reasons.

With the rally, the ADFC calls for a better cycling infrastructure. “Autobahns are the symbol of German traffic policy with the highest safety and quality standards: wide, flat, safe, crossing-free and continuous,” says Andreas Schön, Chairman of the ADFC Munich. “Cycle paths should be like this. That’s what we’re demanding with the Bike Act.” The expansion of the bike infrastructure is progressing far too slowly, which is why there are many places in Munich and throughout Bavaria where there are no reasonable bike paths, parking spaces or the option of taking your bike with you on public transport.
