In Austria more women are killed than men, this year there are already 25 femicides. The well-known court psychiatrist Heidi Kastner on narcissistic perpetrators, the role of childhood – and what needs to change.

A man in Vorarlberg stabs his ex-wife in front of her house, two other men kill their partners in Lower Austria. And that’s just the femicides in the last week of August 2022 in Austria. Overall, the Austrian women’s shelter has already counted 25 murders this year in which men have killed their wives. In Germany, too, a femicide occurs on average every third day. With a higher murder rate of women than men, however, Austria is unique in the EU.
