Prometheum Announces Ether as ‘Digital Asset Securities’ and Launches Custody Service

Prometheum is one of the few crypto companies approved by the US financial regulator as a Special Purpose Broker-Dealer (SPBD) for digital asset securities. has announced that it will offer institutional grade Custody services for Ether.

In a February 7th post on X Prometheum recommendthat Ether will be treated as a security for custodial services on the platform, with the company receiving approval from the US Financial Industry Regulatory Commission in May 2023 to deal with securities of digital assets.

“Prometheum ATS supports the trading of certain digital asset securities that are currently only traded on crypto exchanges,” according to the company’s website. “Diversify your portfolio by investing in ‘crypto asset’ categories with investor protection under securities laws.”

It is unclear how the US SEC will respond to Prometheum offering Ether as a security to investors, as SEC Chairman Gary Gensler previously avoided answering questions at an April 2023 hearing that ETH Does it qualify as a security?
