Did a social assistant at a daycare center in southern Lower Saxony force children to eat and go to sleep? A court should now clarify this.

Because they A daycare center employee is said to have forced children to eat and go to sleep from today onwards. The public prosecutor’s office accuses the social assistant of, among other things, coercion in six cases, as the Duderstadt district court announced. In another case, she is said to have locked a child in a cloakroom for a few minutes.

According to the information, the acts occurred from September 2021 to July 2022 in the Göttingen district in southern Lower Saxony. The defendant is said to have used violence to force the children to eat and go to sleep. “Especially through physical pressure, not through beatings,” emphasized the director of the court, Gerhard von Hugo. The trial was originally scheduled to begin in December. However, because co-plaintiffs were unable to attend, the start was postponed. At the start of the trial, the charges were read out and two daycare center employees were to be heard as witnesses.

At the end of 2022, the Göttingen administrative court had already issued a temporary work ban to two daycare employees in the case. After the allegations became known in July 2022, the institution’s sponsor, the Diocese of Hildesheim, initially released the two of them – but after a few months they allowed them to work again under conditions. The investigation against one of the two women was closed.
