Harvey Weinstein is in a New York hospital. A few days after his conviction for sex crimes was overturned, the former film producer received medical treatment.

The former film mogul imprisoned for sexual offenses Harvey Weinstein (72) is being treated in a New York hospital, according to his spokesman and legal team. Weinstein has high blood pressure, heart disease and “a variety” of other health problems, it said in a statement that was available to the dpa. His transfer from a prison in the north of the US state of New York to the New York metropolis led to problems that now have to be monitored by a doctor.

Weinstein was sentenced to 23 years in prison for sexual offenses in 2020. Last Thursday, an appeals court in New York surprisingly overturned the conviction. By a narrow majority, the panel found that procedural errors had been made in the process at the time. Weinstein is still in custody. In a second criminal trial in Los Angeles, which also involved sex crimes, he was sentenced to 16 years in prison in 2023.

Harvey Weinstein is due in court on Wednesday

A hearing is scheduled for Wednesday in Manhattan court. Weinstein was transferred to New York’s Rikers Island prison after the judge’s ruling on Thursday. He is now being treated at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan.

The first Weinstein trial marked a milestone in legal history. The case played a key role in triggering the #MeToo movement. Since 2017, more than 80 women have publicly accused Weinstein of sexual assault. The ex-producer has always denied any guilt and claimed that sexual acts were consensual.
