England celebrates its football heroes: For the first time, the “lionesses” are in the final of a women’s football World Cup after beating Australia 3-1. Crown Prince William (40) and Princess Kate (41) are also happy about the success. On the royal couple’s official Twitter account congratulated William enthusiastically: “What a phenomenal performance by the lionesses – on to the final!”
“Fantastic hosts”
The prince also has warm words for the losing team Australia: “Sorry for the Matildas, you played brilliantly and were fantastic hosts of this World Cup.” The post is signed with the abbreviation “W”.
The tweet received over 7500 likes within a short time, was shared 480 times and commented on over 100 times. One user wrote that he hopes William can make it to the final: “Princess Charlotte would love this moment.” The eight-year-old is known in England as a football fan and is said to even play at her school. Charlotte is also enthusiastic about tennis: she recently made headlines with her celebrations at Wimbledon.
Next Sunday, England’s women’s soccer team will meet Spain in the final – almost exactly a year after beating Germany at the European Championship.
