Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan have made their first Hollywood appearance. They accepted an award at the NAACP Image Awards.

Prince Harry (37) and Duchess Meghan (40) accepted the “President’s Award” on the stage of the NAACP Image Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday. According to “People” magazine, Prince Harry thanked him in his speech among other things for the “warm welcome” in the circle of prizewinners. Meghan, who was accompanied by her mother Doria Ragland (65), said she “couldn’t be prouder”.

Through the work of their Archewell Foundation, they fought the Covid 19 pandemic and also drew attention to the Black Lives Matter movement, according to the jury’s statement. The NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) was founded in New York City in 1909. It is one of the oldest and most influential civil rights organizations in the United States.

It is deeply humbled to be here in the company of so many illustrious awardees, Meghan said. Personalities such as Muhammad Ali, Colin Powell, LeBron James and Rihanna have previously received the award. She is very proud to be doing this work for her foundation together with her husband.

Killing of George Floyd a turning point for Meghan and Harry

She moved to her native California with Harry shortly after the murder of George Floyd. These nine minutes and 29 seconds would have torn open “unhealed wounds”. As a result, she and her husband decided in the months that followed to use their foundation to do more for justice for all ethnic groups and for progress.

Prince Harry thinks of the people of Ukraine

Harry initially used his speaking time to think about the war in Ukraine. The people there are now in dire need of the continued support of the global community. He then spoke about his commitment in the USA. It is a special honor for him: He comes from a different background than his “incredible wife” and yet he was received so warmly in the NAACP community.

He and Meghan would share the obligation to fight injustice. The most overlooked people are the most important ones to listen to. The appearance at the awards ceremony marks Meghan and Harry’s first big Hollywood moment since moving to California in 2020.

Other attendees at the awards ceremony included Zendaya, Mary J. Blige, Michael Strahan, Tiffany Haddish, Questlove, Morgan Freeman, Kerry Washington and many more.
