Primary school in Bavaria: Does religious education still have a future? – Bavaria

The subject has few advocates, as the recent debates about primary school reform showed: many people called for Reli to be cut rather than other subjects. Wrongly? Time to take stock.

“Art, music and English are much more important than religion!” or “Cutting religious hours would be the more sensible solution and acceptable to everyone involved, including the churches”: Comments like these about the primary school reform in Bavaria can be found in letters to the editor to the SZ or under the petition that protests against taking time off for additional math and German lessons in art, music or works. To put it bluntly: religious instruction? Away with it! Time to take stock.
