Price increase – bread will probably be more expensive – economy

Many bakeries are suffering from the rising costs of energy, flour and labor – and are passing their higher expenses on to consumers. “Competition is becoming more difficult,” says Jan Loleit, Managing Director of the Lower Saxony/Bremen Bakers’ Guild Association. After all, companies only have a few options for cutting costs. Bakeries depend on their energy-intensive ovens and cooling systems. These could not be operated with less power. “Most bakeries currently lack the money to invest in modern and more efficient systems due to the effects of the corona pandemic,” says Loleit. In addition to the prices for electricity and gas, the costs for flour and staff would also increase. And due to the increase in the minimum wage due in October, there will soon be another increase in costs.
