Sodala, there it is again. Although: was it ever gone? A life without the “Roy” on Sendlinger-Tor-Platz seems possible to many Munich night owls, but pointless. The well-known plush restaurant closed its doors at the end of 2020, hung up the glitter garlands and served the last sparkling wine. In the end, real estate monopoly, which is popular in Munich, was to blame again; the homeowner just had other plans than the party people.
If you want to reminisce uninhibitedly, you now have the opportunity: On Monday, June 19th, the documentary “Roy – Eine Legende geht zu Ende” celebrates its premiere, in which the former hosts Roy Dubowy and Günther Grauer leave 62 years of gastro history Reminisce. The international show nobility was their guest, from Tina Turner to Michael Jackson, Bryan Adams or Siegfried and Roy. That’s also why the bar was so popular: Where else in Munich did you have the chance to meet world stars and sing hits at the same time?

Which of course should be understood as praise: because you will hardly find critical voices here, not even from other prominent guests such as Chris de Burgh, Ottfried Fischer or Angela Wiedl. The premiere takes place as a so-called pop-up event of the Munich Film Festival – and because it’s not so good to celebrate in the cinema, it goes on to the Hackerhaus afterwards.
