It is unclear whether the 35-year-old’s gun was sharp in Polling – but because he shoots at officials, 170 police officers arrive.
A 35-year-old handled a firearm in his home in Polling (Weilheim-Schongau district), fired at police officers and thus triggered a large-scale operation on Monday.
During the arrest by special forces, there was an exchange of fire, the man was injured in the hand by a shot from a service weapon, as a police spokesman said. Police officers were not injured.
The 35-year-old was “mentally disturbed”. It was initially unclear whether the man’s weapon was a live firearm. Criminal investigations should now show that, said the police spokesman. However, this was irrelevant for the assessment of the dangerous situation for emergency services and neighbors. “When someone shoots, you always have to assume the worst,” he said.
The 35-year-old was taken to hospital to be treated for his hand injury. He was apparently in an “exceptional mental situation,” said the spokesman. He initially threatened himself with a gun. Relatives called the police. She surrounded the house – whereupon the man fired shots at her several times.
It was initially unclear why the escalation occurred. The neighbors in the Upper Bavarian community had been brought to safety. The police had warned against avoiding the area. There were 170 police officers on duty.
