It’s like this with some revolutions: only in hindsight do you realize that they took place. The introduction of the compact cassette was such a case: In August 1963, the cassette recorder was presented at the Berlin Radio Exhibition – and with it the compact cassette that went with it. But there are basically no contemporary media reports from this radio exhibition 60 years ago that would have addressed this innovation. And so would have recognized the revolutionary potential of the cassettes.
