WhatsApp: Green instead of blue – design changes on the iPhone

A person holds an iPhone with a green screen showing the WhatsApp logo

The popular WhatsApp Messenger (App Store link) has made design changes on the iPhone and switched from the previously known blue color to a shade of green. Overall, the messenger continues to appear very tidy, but from now on the accents are in green and no longer in blue.

WhatsApp on the iPhone: Now green instead of blue

Individual elements and buttons have always been shown in blue, but in the last few days WhatsApp seems to have expanded the test and shown numerous controls in green. Among other things, the plus icon to start a new chat, the archive option when you move from right to left over a chat or in the status area, where new messages are now shown with a green border instead of blue. The change seems logical because the WhatsApp logo has always been green.

Among other things, WhatsApp has also cleaned up the settings on the iPhone and, as far as I can see, has completely removed the color of the icons. From now on there is only a colorless layout, although some elements are also available in green, for example links.

Changing color on WhatsApp seems to be possible soon

The always well-informed website WABetaInfo reported Meanwhile, you can change the color later. In the beta version, WhatsApp is testing the colors black, violet and red in addition to green, and you can also switch to the old shade of blue. In the current iPhone version there is no option to switch from green to blue.

The new changes to the layout also clear the way for the new chat filters that we introduced a few days ago. The new filters should allow you to filter your chats and find messages more quickly.
