Philosopher Juliane Rebentisch on Hannah Arendt – culture

Because of a snowstorm, Juliane Rebentisch arrived at the campus of Princeton University in New Jersey just a day late. As usual at the Hochschule für Gestaltung in Offenbach, she will teach philosophy there. 63 years ago, Hannah Arendt started a small revolution at the elite university: in 1959 she was the first woman to lecture as a visiting professor at Princeton. Today Arendt is regarded as one of the great figures in intellectual history of the 20th century, and studying philosophy without reading Arendt is hardly conceivable. Pillar saints, however, must not only be admired, they must be read again. Juliane Rebentisch’s new book about her confrontation with Hannah Arendt is now being published: “The Controversy over Plurality”. Rebentisch quarrels in particular with Arendt’s interventions in American politics in the 1960s.
