Now it’s out: The exhibition fight between entertainer Stefan Raab and ex-professional boxer Regina Halmich will be shown on RTL. It is the entertainer’s first TV appearance in years.

It’s been puzzling for weeks, now it’s out: the third exhibition fight between entertainer Stefan Raab and ex-professional boxer Regina Halmich will be seen on RTL. The broadcaster has secured the broadcast rights to the event, as it said in its announcement on Thursday. The exhibition fight, which is scheduled to take place in Düsseldorf on September 14th, will be broadcast live. “Bild” also reported.

Raab is returning to television after a long absence from the screen. In 2015 he largely withdrew from the public. Since then he has been working behind the scenes. In 2018 he appeared in a stage show in Cologne, but it was not broadcast on television.

The former TV presenter (57, “TV total”) has already boxed against Halmich (47) twice – in 2001 and 2007. And the Cologne native suffered defeats twice. She broke his nose once. ProSieben broadcast the first two matches.

Around April 1st, Raab surprised everyone with hints on social networks that he could imagine a return to the spotlight. Because of the date, some observers initially assumed it was an April Fool’s joke – but then tickets for the boxing match were actually offered for sale. Where and how spectators who are not sitting in the Düsseldorf hall themselves can watch him was long considered unclear.

According to RTL, the new exhibition fight is entitled “The Clark Final Fight”. This may be a reference to Clark Kent, the real name of the superhero Superman.

“The fact that RTL will show the “event of the decade” is fantastic,” RTL quoted Raab’s opponent Regina Halmich, who lives in Karlsruhe. “I’m going to show that I can still give him a good beating.”
