She is no longer an elected official from Sarthe. Penelope Fillon left her position as municipal councilor of Solesmes, according to information from West France, published this Monday. “She gave me her resignation on Thursday at the beginning of the afternoon,” Pascal Lelièvre, mayor of this small town of 1,200 inhabitants, near Sablé-sur-Sarthe, where the couple’s residence is located, confirms to the newspaper.
Penalty of ineligibility
Seven years after the explosion of “Penelopegate”, the Court of Cassation definitively confirmed last week the guilt of François Fillon for his wife’s fictitious jobs, but decided that the sentences handed down against him as well as certain damages should be re-examined.
His wife’s sentence was, however, confirmed. She was sentenced in May 2022 to two years in prison, as well as a fine of 375,000 euros and ineligibility for two years. Which forces her to leave the municipal council where she has served since 2014.
