The situation is miserable: Causa Wagenknecht, lost state elections, no more government participation in Berlin. And now the new electoral law, fatal for the left, is threatening. Can the party still save its existence?

How’s the left doing? More like the indestructible faction leader Dietmar Bartsch or like the increasingly mysterious Gregor Gysi? More like the hard-working but hapless party chairman Janine Wissler or the inner-party opposition leader Sahra Wagenknecht or Bodo Ramelow, who is always hovering over things? That’s one of the basic problems of this party: the answer always depends heavily on who you ask the question.
