Paris and the inner suburbs under drought “vigilance”

Part of Ile-de-France placed under “vigilance” drought. Thursday, June 15, the prefect of the region, the prefect of Paris and the prefects of the inner suburbs (Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis and Val-de-Marne) adopted level 1 “vigilance” drought. A decision which follows the “rainfall deficit experienced by the Seine basin since the beginning of May, combined with the high temperatures of June [qui] leads to a gradual and generalized drop in the flow of rivers, ”specifies the prefecture of Ile-de-France in a press release.

In recent weeks, the gradual drop in river flows in these areas has led to drought vigilance thresholds being exceeded. The Seine notably reached this critical flow at Alfortville and the Marne at Gournay-sur-Marne on June 7 and 8. To deal with this situation, the water resources committee will meet next week.

“Every gesture counts”

The prefects encourage users to “adapt their water consumption and save resources”. It is recommended to avoid car washes or any exterior cleaning, to reduce the washing of sidewalks to what is strictly necessary, to reduce domestic consumption and to avoid watering green plants during hot hours. “Every gesture counts”, recalls the prefecture of the region.

The water level of the Seine will still be supported as every year by the return of the reservoir lakes (Marne, Seine, Aube and Pannecière), so as not to slow down navigation.
