Overhead line damage in Hanover: disruption likely until Thursday morning | NDR.de – News – Lower Saxony

As of: November 29, 2023 10:57 p.m

According to Deutsche Bahn, there may be delays and train cancellations until Thursday morning following the damage to the overhead line at Hanover Central Station. Rail traffic is only slowly starting up again.

The restrictions on train traffic could last until the morning hours, a railway spokesman told NDR in Lower Saxony late on Wednesday evening. The east-west axis from Berlin to the Ruhr area and the north-south axis are particularly affected. Towards the south, traffic is moving again on three of the four tracks. However, work is continuing to resolve the disruption on the eastbound tracks. Local, regional and long-distance trains are affected. The disruption also affects other train stations: There were also severe delays in Göttingen in the evening. The trains were jammed in Hanover, but there were no train drivers to drive them away, a train attendant told NDR Lower Saxony.

Failures in local, regional and long-distance transport

In the afternoon, all tracks at Hanover Central Station were briefly closed. Many ICE trains – for example from Berlin to Cologne, from Hamburg to Munich or to Nuremberg – were rerouted and stopped instead at Hannover-Messe Laatzen station, Deutsche Bahn said. Long queues formed at the Deutsche Bahn information desk in Hanover train station. The display board showed delays for almost all trains, sometimes more than 100 minutes. They said they were working hard on repairing the overhead line. Passengers are asked to make their connection via the shortly before the train departs electronic timetable information to check on the internet.

Pantograph torn off train and fell onto overhead line

According to the federal police, a pantograph came loose from a train around 800 meters from the main train station, fell into an overhead line and tore it off. There was no evidence of a crime, a federal police spokesman said in the evening. “We have completed the on-site investigation and have not found anything criminally relevant.”
