Ottobrunn: Further construction of the U5 in danger – district of Munich

Should a new depot be built in Neuperlach, the extension of the U 5 is in danger, warns Ottobrunn’s mayor.

Ottobrunn’s mayor Thomas Loderer fears that the subway will continue to be built as far as Taufkirchen and Ottobrunn. In the current issue of the parish bulletin My Ottobrunn On the one hand, the CSU politician pleads passionately for the expansion of the U 5 and the double-track expansion of the S 7, while on the other hand he questions the fact that the Bavarian state government is doing everything possible to realize these two projects.

The background is that the construction of a subway depot at Neuperlach-Süd station is imminent. The time pressure is great, the contracted Stadtwerke München (SWM) should actually be through with the construction work by 2026. According to Loderer, the year 2030 is now targeted for completion. However, according to the mayor of Ottobrunn, this depot has an enormous impact on any changes to the existing lines, which is why an important precautionary measure is absolutely necessary in order not to jeopardize such plans.

The head of the town hall warns of “scandalous state failure”

A first section of a tunnel should ensure that the extension is still technically possible after the completion of the subway depot. “If this precautionary measure is not implemented, the train has literally departed for a long time,” warns Loderer. And that applies to both the subway extension and a possible S-Bahn expansion.

Ottobrunn’s mayor obviously sees imminent danger: The state government should not leave the district and the municipalities of Ottobrunn and Taufkirchen out in the rain when it comes to the question of traffic development, at least not if they are “serious about building the largest aerospace industry -Campus of Europe”. There is an urgent need for action, writes Loderer, referring to the state elections on October 8th. The construction of the subway depot without the technical option for the subway extension and the double-track expansion of the S-Bahn would be “scandalous state failure,” according to the mayor.
